When Jacob grows up

For a long time, Jacob has been telling me what he wants to be when he grows up. It changes often. Sure, for awhile it was garbage man, but he sprinkled in others too. It was usually inspired by a book we had just read or a show he just watched. I always had the thought to write the list down and not lose it. Now with my blog, I can. So I have added a list in the sidebar and I will update it as he does. Enjoy!

Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty ...

He calls me in the other day saying, "Mom, come see what I built and take a picture!" I walked into the living room to see this masterpiece he had constructed (it was on the table so Parker couldn't get to it). I, of course, give my oohs and awes when he tells me that it is "Paradise City". Where he came up with that, I have no idea. All I could do is laugh and take his picture.

Grandma & Grandpa King came to town

Last month, Jamie's parents were in town for a couple of days. It was a short trip, but we loved being able to spend time with them. The timing worked out great because it was Jacob's Spring Break and Jamie was taking one of the days off anyway for Parker's allergy evaluation.
Grandma and Jacob spent all kinds of time working on his sticker book and just reading in general. As you can tell, Jacob was thrilled to have Grandma spend some time with him and I was thrilled to let somebody else read to him.
Grandpa and Jacob decided they should make some cookies and Parker was not about to be left out that. He just climbed right up like one of the guys ready to go to work. We were all excited for Grandpa to do some baking. He makes some delicious goodies. (He is responsible for the mint brownies.) Jacob went swimming at their hotel while we were at the allergy appointment. I don't have pictures of it, but Jacob came home tired and happy so I think it is safe to say he had a good time.
Grandma and Grandpa didn't leave before they bought the boys new bikes. Obviously Parker loves his. He sits on it and pushes buttons, then gets off and pushes the bike. Then Jacob comes over and pushes Parker riding the bike all over the house. They both just giggle.Of course Jacob picked out a green bike. It is a little big for him right now, but he will be able to ride it for awhile. It is named "The Screamer" (that's what it says on the bike). My favorite is when Jacob heads out into the backyard and says, "Mom, I'm going to ride my Screamer."

We love G&G King and loved that they could spend a couple of days with us. Since we don't live by any family, these kind of visits mean that much more to us.

Did I mention that he's walking?

It begins! Parker took his first steps a few weeks ago, but as of last week, he is officially walking. Soon, he will be running. This is a short clip, but a taste for those that don't get to see him in person as much as we'd like.

It took 13 years, but it happened ...

A couple of weeks ago, I was going into Pacifica down Sharp Park Road (a very curvy, steep road) and got pulled over at the bottom. Allegedly, I was going too fast and was issued my first ticket.

I must admit, as I was pulling away from the cop I thought, "Well that sucked, but I did make it to 29 before getting my first ticket." Mind you, it was not my first time being pulled over or being in an accident that I may or may not have caused. I guess I should have taken off my sunglasses and batted my eyelashes a few times, then maybe I'd have escaped another one. Either way, I now have the joy of on-line traffic school in my future.

It did make me wonder, how old were you when you got your first ticket, speeding or otherwise?

Jacob's First Date

This is Chelsea. She is our babysitter, our friend, and Jacob's first date. (This actually happened about a month ago I'm just getting around to posting it.)
Apparently one evening after Jamie and I had left Chelsea with the boys to go out, Jacob was sad because "he wanted to go on a date like Mom and Dad". Chelsea said she would take him out and he was stoked. They decided to go out for ice cream one afternoon.
The day finally came. After I picked up Jacob from school, we headed to the flower shop to pick up a flower for Chels. I told him it was a kind thing to do and Chelsea would love it, plus it is never too soon to teach thoughtfulness. (He settled on a Gerber daisy, I thought it was an excellent choice.)
She picked him up after he finished his lunch and they headed out. Just before leaving I reminded Jacob that he needed to be a gentleman and open the doors for her. His father is an excellent example of that, but a little extra reminding never hurts (for either one).
They went to Baskin Robins and had ice cream, picked up her sister, Lyndsey, from school, went with both girls to get a Jamba, and then played at their house until I finished my stuff and I picked him up. He had a great time and I was grateful to Chelsea for taking him out. We will certainly miss her when she goes back to school next week!
*Before the "but he's not 16" comments start flying, let's step back, get a little perspective, and realize he's 4 and his babysitter took him for an ice cream cone.

Ahhh ... the joys!

Nothing better then when your child is in the destructive age of discovery!
The bathroom door is now closed all the time and locks are on various cupboards.
Good thing he's cute or I'd be a lot more annoyed -- just look at that face.
